In France, the Nord and Pas-de-Calais departments and the Regional Council awarded Axione/Bouygues Energies & Services the Public Service Delegation contract. The consortia will be tasked with developing, building and operating the region's high-speed broadband network in areas not yet covered by private service providers.

The contract was presented on 18 November in Arleux-en-Gohelle (62), with French Secretary of State and Minister for Digital Affairs Axelle Lemaire, the Nord-Pas-de-Calais Mixed Syndicate President Christophe Coulon, and Bouygues Construction Chairman and CEO Philippe Bonnave in attendance.

THD 59-62, a project company, has been created to oversee tasks outlined in the contract. THD 59-62 will also work with service providers to market the network, in an effort to offer local companies and residents in both departments the best fibre-optic services.

With some 681,000 FTTH installations, this is France's largest and most ambitious fibre-optic construction project, making Axione the number one service provider for public-initiative networks.

Moreover, Axione has been committed to local economic development for more than a decade. In the Nord-Pas-de-Calais, Axione has shown strong support for local employment opportunities and more than 300,000 hours of professional training will be offered.
